どのように過去について理解することができるでしょうか。How can we understand the past?

​強力な公的機関（インスティチューション）は、多くの書物や記録を保管し、わたしたちの集合的記憶を形作っています。これは、いわゆる主流の歴史の「アーカイブ」だと言えますが、こうした公的なアーカイブに残されない資料はどうなってしまうのでしょうか。こぼれ落ちてしまった書物や物が語る歴史はどうなってしまうのでしょう。Our powerful institutions preserve documents and records to facilitate our collective remembering. These are the so-called “archives” of mainstream histories. But what happens to the materials that never make it into official archives? What about the stories those papers and objects tell?
本展で紹介される３つのイタリアのアーカイブは人々の語りが消し去られてしまわないよう、忘却に抵抗するのです:カッセロのフラヴィア・マダスキ・ドキュメンテーション・センター（Cassero Centro di Documentazione Flavia Madaschi）はボローニャにあるカッセロLGBTI+センターの一部であり、1970年代後半、主にゲイの男性の権利を守る運動から発展しました。ボローニャ女性史アーカイブ（Archivio di storia delle donne di Bologna）はボローニャにある女性センターの一部であり、1970年代後半、イタリアの女性運動から生まれました。移民の記憶アーカイブ (Archivio Memorie Migranti)は 難民や移民のイタリア語学学校で集められた物語や証言の保管庫として始まりました。This exhibit introduces three Italian archives that strive to resist oblivion for the stories that have too often been erased:Cassero Flavia Madaschi Documentation Center (Cassero Centro di Documentazione Flavia Madaschi), part of the larger Cassero LGBTI+ Center in Bologna, which grew out of the primarily male gay rights movements of the late 1970s in BolognaThe Bologna Women's History Archive (Archivio di storia delle donne di Bologna), formed out of the women’s movement of the late 1970s in ItalyThe Archive of Migrant Memories (Archivio Memorie Migranti), which began as a repository for stories, narratives, and testimonies collected in a school set up to teach Italian to refugees and migrants in Rome.
このイタリアのアーカイブはいずれも活動中のアーカイブで、社会的マイノリティであり、広く認知されていないコミュニティと連携しています。3つのアーカイブは、それぞれ周縁化されたコミュニティに関わる社会運動から生まれ、過去を保存すると同時に、よりインクルーシブな未来への希望を提示します。These three Italian archives are all also active archives, attached to communities struggling to fully access the societies in which they live. Each grew (and is growing) out of a social movement on behalf of a marginalized community. As they preserve the past, they also express an aspiration for a more inclusive future.
この展示によって、ぜひ3つのアーカイブが提示する物語と、それぞれのアーカイブをめぐる物語を探ってみてください。自分自身の過去と未来について、そして、矛盾だらけの一つひとつの命が、多くの対立を抱えるコミュニティが、いかにわたしたちの総体的な経験を形作っているのか、共に考えてみませんか。The exhibit invites the visitor to explore the stories of these three archives and the stories preserved by these three archives. I also invite the visitor to think about their own relationship with the past and the future, and to imagine how each life, rich with contradictions, each community, full of tensions, makes up our collective human experience.
